The Good

o        The 2.4 engine with 165@5,800 PS@rpm power and maximum torque of   23.6@4,250 kgm@rpm is really powerful and responds to the throttle input instantly.

o        The car touches 0-100 in just about 11 seconds which is really good considering its overall weight.

o        The interiors are spacious and passengers at the back have more knee room, while front leg room remains comfortable, as before.

o        Air-con is efficient and does not hamper the speed/acceleration of the car.

o        Hyundai has taken greater measures to ensure passenger safety with six airbags, dual front seat belt pretensioners, and ABS with EBD.

o        The engine is more refined than other Hyundai manufactured cars and has loads of power to match.

o        The newly added ABS has substantially increased the braking ability of the car.

The Bad

o        Despite the striking features of the car, it still isn’t attractive enough to make a lasting impression at first glance.

o        For what the car has to offer, the price seems alarmingly high.

o        Overall servicing and maintenance is somewhat expensive.

o        Resale value of Sonata has dropped down considerably over the years.

o        The mileage in the city is mere 8-8.5km/litre and about 11-12km/litre on a highway.

Xpert Opinion

All-new Sonata Embera 2.4 is the sixth generation of the Sonata. It has got stylish looks and provides superb ride, all because of its superior design, powerful engine and great suspension. Despite all the pluses the car hasn’t been able to mark a niche for itself in the Indian market. The problem is the price.  For a lesser amount one can get a Civic or Corolla and if one adds a little more to their budget then even an Accord. Thus, Sonata is actually stuck in between the executive saloon and luxury saloon categories. Moreover, the car doesn’t have mileage or resale value to bank upon. All in all, it’s definitely a smooth and sound car to drive, but doesn’t have even a single thing which sets it apart from the rest.
