The Beginning
Born on 19th April, 1957. He is the elder son of the late Dhirubhai Ambani. He graduated in Chemical Engineering from the University Department of Chemical Technology, University of Mumbai, which is now known as, Institute of Chemical Technology (UICT). He started pursuing his MBA program from Stanford Business School but dropped out after the first year to assist his father in building the Patalganga petrochemical plant.
Rise
Mukesh is responsible for initiating Reliance’s backward integration. Under his supervision, the company has set up 60 world-class manufacturing facilities skyrocketing the production capacity of Reliance from less than a million tonnes to twelve million tonnes per year. He is the man behind the petroleum refinery at Jamnagar, which has a present capacity of 660,000 barrels per day and is the world’s largest refinery of its kind. He also set up Reliance Infocomm which is now owned by his younger brother after the split.
