The Beginning
Born on 26th September 1932 in Gah, Punjab which is now a district in Pakistan. He holds undergraduate and Masters degrees from Chandigarh and Oxford. In 2005 and 2006 he was awarded honorary Doctorate in Civil law from Oxford and Cambridge respectively
Rise
Singh worked for the International Monetary Fund early on in his career establishing himself as an ace economist. He served as the Governor of the RBI from 1982-85 and got his first cabinet-berth as the Finance Minister under The Narasimha Rao Government in 1991. He is responsible for ushering in a new era of reforms with his policies on globalization and liberalization.
