Name: Karan Johar

Age: 35

Country: India

Category: Entertainment

Calling: Film Director/ Producer/ Television Anchor

The Beginning

Born a male (So, the birth certificate says) on May 25, 1972 to film producer Yash Johar. He studied at the Greenlawns High School and graduated from the H.R College in Mumbai. He also received a Master’s degree in French and a Doctorate in ‘Shahrukhkhanese’, ‘ Bollowood P.R.’ AND ‘Artificial Smileology’

Rise

K Jo started his career in acting. There was nothing spectacular about his role in DDLJ. However, the magic of Aditya Chopra’s script and the chemistry between Shahrukh Khan and Kajol made every character in the movie- big or small- memorable. As with everything, some of these memories faded. While others- like K Jo’s career- illuminated. With solid funding from the Yash Raj Banner and King Khan’s desire to act in them, he made three movies trying to squeeze the whole Indian experience- both in India and lately overseas , like a toothpaste. Entered flimsy plots, implausible sidekicks, irritating stereotypes, sugarcoated ‘ social messages’, and all-is-well endings and a completely inane filmmaker was seen rubbing shoulders with the likes of Shyam Benegal and Mani Ratnam. His last two movies- Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham and Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna- used and abused every middle-class Indian’s fantasy- family values, teensy masochism, fashion parades, colloquialisms, foreign locales- to death. However, the man is a marketing maven and knows the pulse of every middle-class Indian better than his family physician.

Power-Play

K Jo’s power play comes from the global appeal of his films and his much unhyped role as the unofficial publicist of the (supposed) King of India- Shah Rukh Khan. Here’s to his future chats, dinners, holidays, commitments or even a body-fusion surgery with King Khan!
