Lenovo ThinkPad X300 By: Chip Logo

Feather-weight performer
The Lenovo ThinkPad X300 will easily fit in a bag containing your files and documents. It’s slim, lightweight and performs as well as a desktop computer. Let’s take a look at its features and find out more.

Features
The ThinkPad X300 is built around Intel’s GM965 IGP chipset an Intel Core 2 Duo L7100 1.20 GHz processor. The onboard graphics are courtesy of the Intel X3100 and the laptop houses 2 GB of DDR2-667 RAM. The two things that make this laptop very quiet are the 1.8-inch solid state drive (64 GB) and the low-voltage processor. The SSD makes the laptop lighter and the CPU generates less heat, making the fan spin slower. For taking backups, there’s a slim DVD writer. Although the graphics are onboard, you can enjoy widescreen movies and light gaming on the 13.3-inch 16:10 screen which has a native resolution of 1440 x 900 and is LED backlit. The lid of the X300 has a small LED to illuminate the keyboard at night, and a webcam encased in its rim. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi a/b/g/n and Gigabit Ethernet. For security, a fingerprint scanner is provided. A striking feature is the Li-polymer battery, which is better than the usual Li-ion batteries. Other standard features such as Bluetooth, 3 USB ports, a VGA output, audio ports and so on are present as well. The system comes with Windows Vista Business and has a 1 year warranty. Finally, the package includes a user manual, driver disc and a pair of recovery discs.

Build quality
The Lenovo X300 is as sturdy as its ThinkPad siblings, but sports a different look. It has been compared to the MacBook Air on many occasions. The X300 looks tough, with an excellent keyboard and touchpad, rock-solid rubber-textured body and extremely stable screen. The build quality is excellent.

Performance
The most exciting part of this laptop is the solid-state drive. Looking at the Drive Index, we found that it scored a whopping 84 MB/s. Standard spindled laptop hard drives give around 32 MB/s, making this score incredible! The X300’s CPU will be able to handle light office work and applications such as Microsoft Office. High-end or graphics-intensive applications will tax it. Watching movies—except full-HD—is fine.

Verdict
It’s natural for new technology to demand a premium price. The Lenovo ThinkPad X300 is not any different. If you’re ready to shell out that extra premium for features such as an SSD and the ultraportable yet feature-rich design, such, then this laptop is for you. However, more often than not, it doesn’t take much time for new technology to adapt to the mainstream norm.
For: Outstanding hard drive speeds, build quality and keyboard, excellent battery life.
Against: Not really worth Rs 1.5 lakh
