A great paint job starts even before you open your first can of paint.
Before you start painting, either cover or remove all hardware. If there are holes or cracks in the walls, instead of stuffing them in with plaster or drywall, first enlarge the holes so that the compund can be properly filled in, then keep wetting the hole for optimim slow drying. Wash the dirty areas, sand the rough spots and then prime.
While painting, start with the ceiling and then move on to the walls. A 12-in. brush will help you cut in the finish color at all corners of the room and against the trim. Once through with that, use a roller to first paint using W strokes then fill that in. It’s a fact the once you dip the roller in the paint tub, seventy percent of the paint will come off in the first downstroke itself. So start at least 9 inches from the corner to avoid splatters. Apply two coats of paint.
Using a semi gloss and gloss paint, paint and trim the woodwork. Though its best to mask the walls before working on the woodwork, professional painters often skip this step. If you plan to mask your newly painted wall, use a tape meant for this purpose so that it doesn’t pull the paint from the wall. Once the final coat of paint has dried, bring in the hardware.
